How it works
A ski lift,
but on water
You grab the handle and a rope tows you across the water. But there's no boat pulling you, the rope is attached to a carriage running back and forth along a cable strung between <strong>two towers</strong> on the shores of the lake. Same principle as a ski lift, except there's no snow here, you're riding on water.
It's a two-tower system — also called 2.0. The line is straight, at the end you set up the turn and come back. It takes one rider at a time, which is why a session lasts ten minutes: they're all yours, not shared with other riders. Every time you fall you can start again right where you fell, without having to get out of the water to restart. You pick up where you fell, no breaks.
The tow runs on a clean electric motor, and the instructor sets the speed with a remote from the dock, watching you. It starts slow and speeds up when you're ready — not before. If you're already experienced, the instructor is always on hand to help you progress, and it's all included in the price.
The line

The features aren't lined up under the cable: they sit to the left and right of the line, at different distances. If you're learning you ride through the middle with room to learn your first turns. If you get too close by mistake, the instructor stops the tow and you start again from the water.
There are six features, some suited to beginners and experienced riders alike, others for experienced riders only.

2 M kickers
Near the start, one on each side, facing the dock. Medium size: enough to leave the water for the first time, not enough to frighten you.
Flat box 16 m
40 cm above the water, bidirectional and wide enough to learn your first slides safely.
Funbox 23 m
Made up of a lower box (2 m wide and 1 m high) suited to all levels and a rooftop box 1.70 m high and 23 m long suited to intermediate/advanced riders. The structure is bidirectional and great for transfers from the low part to the rooftop box or vice versa for more experienced riders.
Flat rail 18 m
Also called a handrail, 70 cm above the water, a feature for intermediate/advanced riders.
Beginner kicker + up-rail
A gently sloped kicker with a flat, non-curved transition, alongside an up-rail 12 m long and 1.60 m high. Thanks to its limited slope the kicker suits beginners for their first jumps, while the up-rail suits intermediate/advanced riders.
The setting

Lake Terlago sits inside an area protected for the biodiversity of its flora and fauna. It's a beautiful stretch of water 9 km from the city of Trento, at the foot of Monte Bondone and the Paganella; no motorboats, no waves: the water is flat practically all the time, which is exactly what you need to learn. The lake is fairly small and shallow, so the water warms up quickly as early as May and stays very warm until the end of September.
If you kite or windsurf on Garda, this is where you go on a no-wind day: here you don't need it, the cable does the pulling.

Federation instructors
Our school is affiliated to the Italian Surfing, Water Ski and Wakeboard Federation. Rounds of the national Cable Cup have been raced here.
In practice that means two things: whoever puts you in the water on day one knows what they're doing, and if wakeboarding really gets you, you can go all the way to competitions, without changing venue. In fact we have a proper team of athletes here, coached by our instructors, who train with us all summer long and take part in competitions all over Italy.
